Welcome i write tween and teen novels with twisty plots--Because life is complicated.
My name is Cynthia T. Toney, and I write fiction with hope and humor that addresses issues important to tweens or teens and contains elements of mystery and romance. My novels are published by Write Integrity Press. Look for these titles:
The books of the Bird Face series: 8 Notes to a Nobody, 10 Steps to Girlfriend Status, 6 Dates to Disaster, and 3 Things to Forget. The Other Side of Freedom (a coming-of-age historical) and its sequel expected in 2020.
I love writing for tweens and teens, particularly those who speak without thinking, make poor decisions, and have love to give but don't always know where to direct it. Young people I've encountered over the years inspired me to write novels that show them how wonderful, powerful, and valuable they are. Today's tweens and teens can identify with the emotions, needs, desires, and challenges of characters in my historical as well as contemporary novels.
The Bird Face series addresses issues of bullying, shyness, children of divorce, blended families, dating, dishonesty, eating disorders, coping with a loved one's Alzheimer's, and teen suicide, among others. But it's also humorous and uplifting. I hope this series appeals not only to young people but also to the adults who care about them.
My 1920s historical novel, The Other Side of Freedom, shows one ordinary boy's struggle to take extraordinary steps for the good of others. The main character is the son of Italian immigrants, and the setting is a Louisiana farming community during Prohibition. The story addresses organized crime, ethnic and racial prejudice, and challenges of rural living.
